“The circumstances of our lives may matter less than how we see them,” says Rory Sutherland. Sutherland is a powerful player in the world of advertising and an astute writer with the British Magazine, The Spectator. In his 2011 TEDxAthens talk , “He makes a compelling case for how reframing our perspective” (whether it be regarding our analgesics or the time it takes while we wait for a Doctor) is “the key to happiness”.
In this talk he mentions more than a few examples of how our thinking and focus can drastically alter our experience. He mentions amongst other things an experiment with pain and how having a sense of control over it really matters….
That and how we frame it/chose to perceive it.
